But here’s simple and quick escape from Bottom Mount that all BJJ beginners should learn first.

Bottom Mount escapes can be a difficult situation for anyone from a total BJJ beginner all the way to advanced practitioners.  There are so many attacks for the person on top and there’s so few options for the person on bottom.

If you’re in Bottom Mount; your partner is suffocating you with their crushing weight.

Plus, you’re in a state of panic since you’re seconds away from getting arm barred or choked out.

But here’s simple and quick escape from Bottom Mount that all BJJ beginners should learn first.

When you’re in Bottom Mount, the key thing is to stay calm.  Of course, this isn’t as easy as it sounds.  But, it’s absolutely critical to stay calm and not make things worse for yourself.  If you’re in Bottom Mount, things aren’t improved by you getting frustrated or panicking.

Now that you’re calm and relaxed, your partner probably has a cross face on you and is most likely driving their right shoulder into your jaw.  With your left hand reach up over their right shoulder and pull it away from your neck so you can breath better and so you can move your head.

Your partner controlling you with their right arm is actually a good thing.  In a moment, you’re going to use this control to turn them over.

But first, you need to set up the turn over.

Bring your feet close to your hips.  Now bridge up a little bit and drive up onto your right shoulder.  This will force your training partner to his left side.  Most likely, your partner will post out with their left hand to maintain their balance.

As your partner centres up their weight; you now bridge again but this time to your left shoulder.  By trapping their right arm under your neck, it’s now impossible for your partner to post out with their hand.

This quick right to left motion will force a turn over and you’ve not only escaped the Mount position but you’ve now won a top position.

Give this simple and effective Mount escape a try!
