Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a great form of self-defence and teaches you how to defeat a bigger, stronger opponent. I’ve been studying Jiu Jitsu since 1997 and I’ve been teaching professionally since 2004. I’ve always tried to find the quickest and most immediate way to teach BJJ techniques and this is the formula I’ve come up with.
Over the years this has become my number 1 epiphany. I hope that in your Jiu Jitsu career, this will be one of your top 10 “ah ha!” moments. This has helped so many of my students, and I’m giving this away for free right now in hopes that it will help many of you.

Stay away from their legs, always give them your legs.
That’s all BJJ techniques summed up in a single sentence. If you just follow this, you’ll be able to understand Jiu Jitsu immediately. So whether you’re studying Jiu Jitsu for health benefits, for self defence, or because you enjoy it as a sport, if you use this formula it will help you.
You’re probably going to be thinking that there must be some exceptions. There are. I’m painting with a pretty broad brush here. This is a way for everyone to understand Jiu Jitsu immediately. Stay away from their legs, always give them your legs. If you follow this formula, you’ll be able to exercise Jiu Jitsu and have a deep understanding of it almost immediately.
