Introduction
I designed this Ultimate Beginner’s Guide To Kickboxing is a quick start set of video lessons to help someone who has zero experience with martial arts so they feel comfortable when they step into their first Kickboxing class.
These videos are a quick and simple breakdown of some of the techniques and training methods used in a typical Kickboxing class.
Here’s the video 📺 introduction 😃
The 3 Core Elements Of Kickboxing
#1. The first core element of Kickboxing is BOXING.
This is where you are turning your fists and your forearms into weapons and shields. Thus, you are using your fists to generate force and impact in order to create injury to your opponent. Boxing is exceptionally natural. It should feel intuitive to strike with your hands. This is the reason why we almost always start beginners off with Boxing right away.
#2. KICKING – the 2nd core element in Kickboxing.
Kicking is where you are using your feet and your shins as spears and swords. Common kicks are Foot Jabs, Side Kicks, Hook Kicks and Heel Hook Kicks. Note that the fighting stance is different for Kicking than for Boxing. For Kicking, your fighting stance will have you leaning back more so you can reach and extend with your legs. This is in opposition to the fighting stance for Boxing where you’ll be leaning forward more so you’ll have more power for your punches.
#3. Combining your KICKS and PUNCHES
The third and final aspect of Kickboxing is combining your kicks with your punches in a smooth, eloquent manner so that your punches set up your kicks and your kicks set up your punches. Most people who attempt Kickboxing will strike only with their fists, move around a bit and then strike only with their feet.
They’re kicking and then they are boxing – they’re not Kickboxing. It takes time and patience to master the ability to combine your kicks with your punches in a fluid, seamless manner. Stick with it and you’ll be kicking and punching like Chuck Norris in no time!

The 4 Basic Kicks For Kickboxing
The next part of the Ultimate Beginner’s Guide To Kickboxing is learning the 4 basic kicks.
#1 The Left Foot Jab. The Left Foot Jab is a straight kick thrown to your opponent’s chest.
The key element to remember is to lift your left knee up as high as possible so you can generate maximum power for your kick. Strike with the ball of your foot and be sure to extend your leg as much as possible so that you can be as far away as possible while still striking the target.
Be sure to study the details below to help you perfect your Left Foot Jab 😊
#2. The Right Foot Jab.
The Right Foot Jab is very similar to the Left Foot Jab except The Right Foot Jab has way more power. Because the right leg is farther away from the target, there’s more distance to generate power. You’re also adding in the rotation of your hip with the kick so there’s more power when you follow through with the kick.
#3. The Left Hook Kick. The Left Hook Kick is sometimes called a Roundhouse Kick.
Think of your left shin being used as a baseball bat to swing at the right side of your opponent. With the Left Hook Kick, you can kick your opponent in the leg, in the right side of their rib cage or to the right side of their head.
#4. The Right Hook Kick. The Right Hook Kick, also known as the Right Roundhouse Kick is a super powerful kick that swings at the left side of your opponent’s body.
Targets include your opponent’s leg, torso or head. The Right Hook Kick has tremendous power because you can rotate and follow through with your hip when throwing the kick.

A Common Kickboxing Combination
Here is a classic Kickboxing combination that includes both punches and kicks. The key thing to remember as you’re practicing this combination is to smoothly transition from strike to strike.
This combination starts with the Left Foot Jab. Be sure to bring your knee up to your hands so that you’ll have maximum power for your kick.
Directly after the Left Foot Jab, comes the Jab with the Left Hand. The key thing here is to try and launch the left Jab before the left foot lands on the ground from your kick.
After the Jab comes the Straight Right Hand. Have a slight lean forward as you’re throwing this powerful punch with your right fist. As you’re rotating your right hip for the Straight Right Hand, you’re now initiating the power for the Right Hook Kick.
The Right Hook Kick is the punchline of this combination and should be the most powerful strike from this combo. Focus on fully extending your right leg so you get maximum power out of this kick.
This Kickboxing combination can be practiced at the beginner level all the way up to the expert level and will help you synchronize the fluidity between your punches and your kicks.
